Artificial nails also known as fashion nails or Nail extensions are coverings placed over fingernails as fashion accessories, they are made from a wide variety of materials. They are not to act as replacement rather they should be used as enhancements. There are two types of nail enhancenents: Tips and forms. Tips are made of light weight plastic plates that are ‘nail-shaped’ they are glued at the end of each natural nail and an acrylic is then applied over it. Forms on the other hand are fitted over the nail, glued together and coated with any colour of paints…sometimes they come with designs.
History of Nail Enhancers
During the Ming Dynasty of China, noble women wore very long artificial nails indicating that unlike commoners they don’t do manual labour. In the 20th century, artificial nails became widely popular all over the world.
Health benefits of nail enhancers
Nail enhancers (mostly acylic) help to conceal or fix broken, damaged, short or bad nails. It also helps to prevent people from biting their nails (like me) or to prevent nail breakage. If properly fitted, artificial nails are usually not problematic but long term use and if poorly fitted can damage the nail bed and hamper natural nail growth.
